Arthur was inspired to take up guitar in his early teens when he first encountered the music of rock legend Jimi Hendrix. Though comparison is inevitable, Arthur determined to find his own voice. He soon came under the influence of Steve Hackett and Strange Boutique's Fred Smith. Following the requisite adolescent garage band apprenticeships, he made his public debut at DC Space, Washington's late-great venue for the avant-garde. This performance of recitation and ambient guitar was to mark the beginning of Arthur's trademark ethereal sound. By the early 90s he had founded Mindshaft, with which he would spend the next decade. It was with Mindshaft that Arthur toured Kazakhstan, met Paul, and eventually Dave.

Dave emerged as a fixture in the Baltimore rock scene during the late 70s. His bands The Accused, Mission and When Thunder Comes compiled an impressive record of college radio airplay, album sales and favorable reviews in national publications like Rock and Roll Confidential and Maximum R&R. Expanding beyond his Baltimore base, Dave has frequently played the Washington and Philadelphia areas and has opened for national acts including Lords of the New Church, The Ventures and Hot Tuna. Before joining Mindshaft and the formation of Bastille, he spent several years on solo projects. In addition to his performance career, Dave owns and operates Frantic Records, Inc.

Paul has played the Kennedy Center, a Chinese restaurant, and just about everything in between. His early career as a Washington area freelance percussionist afforded him a variety of experiences; one night he'd be behind a set of timpani, another night, a drum kit, and a third might find him flailing the inside of a grand piano with mallets and chalkboard erasers. He holds a degree in applied percussion, has served in the U.S. Marine Band and is currently with the Music Division of the Library of Congress. In the late 90's Paul returned to his first love, Rock and Roll. His first stop was with the DC primal power trio Gloss. Immediately after that stint, he began his artistic alliance with Arthur when he took up the drum chair in Mindshaft.

Like most aspiring rockers, Tom learned his instrument by imitating his favorite band (Rush), but in his case this involved multiple instruments. Starting out on 12-string guitar, he also picked up drums before he ever considered bass. For good measure, he also taught himself to read music. Tom's introduction to his instrument of choice came when a theatrical production he was involved with needed a bass player. Tom gave it a shot and, in his words, "got hooked on the low end." Over the years he went through a progression of local bands, never finding his niche until he joined Bastille. Tom has experience leading and performing with praise ensembles and is currently self-studying music theory and ear training.
